Stainless steel is an excellent choice for large rubbish bins and luggage trolleys due to its durability and shine. Anyone who has owned stainless steel kitchen equipment knows that the term is somewhat of a misnomer. This substance is liable to fingerprints, spots, and water spots due to its stainless steel quality.

To clean stainless steel correctly, you’ll need to learn how. While this material is difficult, it may be scratched or rusted if you are not careful, so be sure to learn how to clean it correctly.

Follow the directions listed below to make your stainless steel shiny and live up to its name.

What you’ll need:

  • Soft cloth
  • Mild dish soap
  • White vinegar; and
  • Baking soda

How to clean stainless steel?

1. It’s a smart idea to check the manufacturer’s directions before cleaning a stainless steel appliance. Don’t fret if you lost the manual; you may be able to find it online. Certain grades of stainless steel are more or less durable, and some appliances have a clear-coat finish that can be stripped by certain cleaning products.

2. Go with the grain. Stainless steel possesses a grain just like wood. Check out the striations on the surface of your appliance and wipe in that direction, starting at the top and going down.

3. The quick clean.
Usually, wiping down the stainless steel appliance with a clean damp cloth should suffice. For more tenacious stains, mix a drop of dish soap with water and use the sudsy mixture to clean the surface. Rinse well and dry thoroughly.

4. The steam clean. A steam cleaner with a nozzle attachment can also be used to sterilize stainless steel. A steam cleaner can disinfect the surface, which then can be wiped dry with a soft cloth. Because stainless steel is susceptible to scratching, avoid using a brush or any other harsh cleaning tools.

5. Try vinegar.
To remove tough grease spots or water scales, wet a soft cloth with a diluted solution of 2 parts water to 1 part vinegar. Never let the vinegar sit on the surface as you wipe from top to bottom. Completely rinse and dry after vinegar has been applied.

6. Baking soda scrub. A tough mess on stainless steel bins or countertops requires a bit more care. Make a paste out of baking soda and water and let it sit for about 20 minutes. Scrub the area with a cloth dampened with water and dish soap mixture after which you must thoroughly rinse and dry. It is crucial to use a gentle cloth and move in line with the grain in order to prevent scratching.

7. Add some shine. To protect your stainless steel trolleys from fingerprints and make its surface shiny, rub a very small amount of olive oil onto a cloth and buff it on the surface, going with the grain. Then wipe away the excess with a dry cloth. The surface should not feel oily, but it will appear shiny and fingerprint-free for longer.
