The very first thing guest take note of when deciding if they would return to your hotel or not is “Cleanliness.” Your hotel might have the best facilities, very big and spacious rooms, and the best receptionist around; guests will not think of returning to stay for a second time in a hotel with rooms that are not spotlessly clean.
To clean hotel rooms like professionals, you need to have a cleaning plan followed strictly. You will also need to decide if you’d be hiring contract cleaners or the in-house staff to do the cleaning. Several things are required, like having a comprehensive list of tools, equipment, cleaning chemicals, and other products. A good cleaning plan must also contain processes and not just equipment to ensure the hotel rooms are sanitary and germ-free.
The following are the cleaning tools and supplies needed:
For convenience and ease of the housekeeping personnel, the cleaning tools can be arranged in a cart so that they can be moved from one room to another.
The following processes can help housekeeping personnel to clean more effectively.
When cleaning a hotel room, the first thing is to take away the used bed linen and towels, the laundry carts are handy for this part of cleaning, but a plastic bag can be used instead. Not to forget, the trash from the room and bathroom must also be removed.
After removing dirty linen from the bed, the next thing is to add clean sheets to the bed and straighten it. In standard hotels: a fitting sheet is used over the mattress, then a flat sheet at the top, the pillows are put in a clean pillowcase, then the blanket and duvets are placed neatly over the sheets.
To avoid messing up your work when cleaning, always remember to start the cleaning from the back of the room than clean forward. After replacing the dirty sheets with clean sheets, the next step is to clean the bathroom.
Always start dusting the higher surfaces to finish with the lower ones. So that the specks of dust from the higher characters will fall downwards, then the floor can be mopped. The first set of things to be dusted are the lampshades, paintings, and anything placed in the top half of the room, then followed by the down surfaces, which include: tabletops, windows and window sills, headboards, desks, dresser, TV sets, and so on. Different rags must be used to avoid transferring germs from one surface to another. The rags must be disinfected before they are used to dust surfaces. A handheld vacuum cleaner can be used to clean the sofas and futons.
Cleaning the floor depends on the hotel room type; the bed can be mopped and vacuumed. Whichever option is picked, always remember to start cleaning from the back of the room. Bleach should be added to the water used to mop, and as you make your way through the room, everything should be returned to where it should be.
Keep in mind that the whole process is aimed at achieving a clean room and a sanitary one. There is a big difference between the two; a cleanroom is free from visible dirt, stains, or crumbs, but clean rooms are free from disease-causing organisms.
Sanitary rooms can be achieved by disinfecting the properties throughout the cleaning process, then using the same cloth to clean several surfaces must be avoided. To avoid using the same material, you can use a fabric with different colors to be differentiated from each other.
